Genesis 8 and 8.1 skin shader
for male and female
purchase, contribute, and learn all about our Simulateen realism skin shader.
Genesis 8.1 version ADDED!
Genesis 8.1 has a different surfaces layout and UV settings.
UPDATE
Any Genesis 8 character
I Have updated the product with universal glossy and micro maps so it can be applied to both male and female Genesis 8 characters.
The default setting is for female, when applying to male all one needs to do is apply the shader to any G8 male character and then change the UV settings to "base male" in the materials surface settings.
Dark skin preset
I've also included a dark skin setting and an additional micro map for darker skins labeled "micro2" in the runtime materials folder.
Installation for SRSS
UPDATE
Simply Extract the SRSS zip file into your content library. For instance, I extracted mine to the same file location I extract all my Renderosity products. I created a "SRSS" file under *my Renderosity file location/People/Genesis 8 Female/SRSS.
Extract into that "SRSS" file location and the one click application should come up under "Materials."
-Secondary method-
1: The Runtime folder: copy the simulateen (containing the texture maps) folder into your Daz Runtime<Textures folder.
2: The Materials folder: there are two duf.png. files that need to be copied into the smart contents saved files location. This may vary for some people. To locate, with a character selected in your Daz viewport go to smart content and saved files. Right click one any picture under presets<materials and select "browse file location." This will show you the path where these two png files need to be located. You may need to restart Daz studio to get them to show up.
Materials setup
After installation, simple select your character and apply the SRSS shader from the saved files location. You will have to re-apply a few surface maps under the surfaces tab. You need to apply the characters base diffuse image map to the Glossy layered weight, Glossy color, and Glossy specular image slots for the arms, ears, face, lips, legs, and torso. That should be it to achieve the default shader settings.
Simple adjustments
The SRSS will affect each default skin texture differently. There are a few simple adjustments to create a better looking skin suited for each individual character you want to create.
- Translucency weight down will usually make the skin lighter with less detail. Up, darker and more transparent.
- Translucency color can have a high effect depending on the overall textures. Try just pure white.
- Glossy layered weight up will brighten and lighten the tone.
- Too blue or red? Try slightly changing the sss reflectance tint. This will have a major effect so be careful.
- Glossiness is the easiest overall way to adjust for a little more shine, but not always the best.
- Slightly adjusting the top coat color can lighten or darken the overall tone and make it more glossy.
Below is a example of Monique 8 from Daz studio and the specific settings I used with her.
